Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid was one of the most prominent architects of the late 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. She was a British Iraqi architect, who became well-known for her futuristic architecture. Curving facades, sharp angles, and hard materials were the distinguishing features of her style. Zaha Hadid was able to take the strongest materials in the world and create smooth and uniform forms.
In 1980 she founded a private architecture firm, which is named Zaha Hadid Architects, and worked there for her whole life. Not only was she a prominent architect, but she has fought sexism in the industry and helped women to thrive in her company. Moreover, she was the first woman who received a Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2016 at the age of 65, but her company Zara Hadid Architects continues to design unique projects all around the world.
Her company projects are praised not only by architects for their forms but also for utilizing new agriculture technologies. For instance, the Forest Green Rovers stadium has to be one of the most environmentally friendly and green stadiums in the world. It is a wooden stadium and an eco-park designed for League Two club Green Rovers football club and will lie in landscaped parkland.
China is currently a second-rising economy and substantial amounts were invested in the developments of its city. The Chinese cities have risen significantly since China has adopted a new economic model and are full of unique architectural objects. Zaha Hadid Architect Agency designed and built five projects in China. However, the two most famous projects are Guangzhou Opera House and Beijing Daxing International Airport Terminal Building.
In contrast to the terminal of the Beijing International Airport, which was finished in 2019, the Guangzhou Opera House was designed and finished by Zaha Hadid herself. Nevertheless, both buildings required massive investments, but were praised by the architect critics and attracted millions of visitors.
Nevertheless, Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world is located in the United Arab Emirates, half of the World’s tallest buildings are located in China. Moreover, several more are to be built. Recently, Zaha Hadid Architects won a competition to build Tower C at Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base.
Shenzhen is an important port, which is a part of the Hong-Kong Shenzhen Western corridor and through which main trade is implemented. Moreover, it united mainland China with the Special Administrative Regions of the People’s Republic of China such as Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. Tower C will be an important economic center and will act as a global technological hub. Several corporate headquarters are planned to be located there. It will also be used to host international conferences and cultural projects.
By extending the Shenzhen Metro Network and creating the stepped podium with a park, the architects aim to create a new public space in the city. The project will prioritize pedestrians and environmentally friendly modes of transport. Consequently, there will be extensive bicycle parking spaces and charging facilities for electric vehicles.
The project will consist of two towers, which will be tied up with the bridges. From the bridges, visitors will have a panoramic view of the city. The project will be built from low-volatile organic materials to minimize the harm to the environment. The tallest tower will be around 400m and the building will be wrapped with double-insulated glass curtain walls.
The building will operate on green energy and will incorporate water collection and recycling. Not only it will operate on solar energy, but it will also produce enough solar energy to give electricity to the whole district. Moreover, gardens located on the floors will compensate for the CO2 emissions produced from the building.
Consequently, many of the projects designed by Zaha Hadid architects create environmentally friendly solutions, which will minimize and reduce negative impacts on the planet.
